Press Release

Bruce Weber
Whirligig

October 27 through December 3
Reception for the Artist Thursday, October 27, 7-9 p.m.

The Fahey/Klein Gallery is proud to present the work of renowned photographer, Bruce Weber. Whirligig is the culmination of over 30 years of images from Weber's multifaceted body of work. In his first Los Angeles showing since 1991, this exhibition is a thematic exploration of Weber's perpetual fascination with the complications and manifestations of being a man in today's world. Moving between object and subject, Weber's photography flows through a unique vision of men captured in their natural environment.

Weber's juxtaposition of Cape Breton Island, Prince Edward Island, or the Adirondack Mountains with the male nude attempts to capture the discovery of masculinity in the emergent complexity of the modern world. His lens discovers the transcendent moment between the exploitation of the image and the exploration of man trying to find himself. Featuring a combination of both old and new silver gelatin photographs, unique Polaroid transfers, and objects as well as images created specifically for this showing, Weber's Whirligig illustrates the profound variation of this accomplished artist. Using classical motifs, including nudes, portraits, and landscapes, his images depict subjects and objects that tumultuously whirl between the past and the present.

Bruce Weber's newest publication, BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS or HOW I STOPPED WORRYING AND LEARNED TO LOVE FASHION (teNeues Publishing Company), will be available at the Fahey/Klein Gallery opening before its worldwide release. Featuring color and black and white images from over 30 years of the fashion work of Bruce Weber, BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS includes previously unpublished images as well as those made famous in Vogue, Interview, GQ, W Magazine, and Vanity Fair. Excerpts from Bruce Weber's personal notebooks, texts by Weber himself, Edna O'Brien, Elizabeth Taylor, Brooke Astor, and others, along with drawings by Grace Coddington round out this exceptional new presentation of Weber's influential career. The publication is not a catalogue for the exhibition at the Fahey/Klein Gallery.

There will be screenings of 4 of Bruce Weber's feature-length documentary films as well as his 3 short films held at the ArcLight Cinemas in Los Angeles from October 14 through October 16, each night starting at 7:30pm.
